Stephen Frederick Starr (born on March 24, 1940) is the founder and Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute. He is also a noted musician.[citation needed]. Starr earned his B.A. Degree at Yale University in 1962 and his Ph.D. in history at Princeton University. He is fluent in Russian, and is the author or editor of 20 books and more than 200 articles on Russian and Eurasian affairs.. He is a research professor at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. His expertise is in Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Russia and the rest of the former Soviet Union.
